Nov 28: Warm Shredded Lamb on Hummus with Pita, with a Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato and Preserved Lemon Salad

Lunch today used the remaining Smoked Salmon on a Brioche Bagel.

  • The Brioche Bagel is 58c
  • The Smoked Salmon pieces were $1.38 per serve
  • Add 20c for Neufchatel
  • Add 60c for Cucumber, Tomato, Onion Sprouts & Capers.

An excellent lunch for $2.76 per serve.

Dinner

To use the last of our Shredded Lamb, we reheated it, placed on warm Hummus and served with Pita Chips and a Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato and Preserve Lemon Salad.

  • The butterflied Leg of Lamb from Aldi was $23.28 and we will get eight serves, or $2.91 per serve
  • Mint was free
  • Add 30c for Onion and seasoning
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 30c per serve
  • The Lettuce was $1.49 and we used half, or 38c each
  • Add 15c for Dressing ingredients
  • The Pomegranate was $2.69 and we used half, or 68c per serve
  • Add 46c for Hummus.

This turned out to be an excellent use of the Shredded Lamb and a very delicious meal, for $5.18 per serve.

Nov 27: Turkey Chipotle Bacon Meatloaf; Baked Sweet Potato with Yoghurt and Chives; Sugar Snap Peas

Lunch

For lunch we picked up Lamb Gyros from New York Chicken and Gyro, for $8.17 with tax and tip.

Dinner

There was another serve of the Chipotle Turkey Bacon Meatloaf and tonight we served with Baked Japanese Sweet Potato topped with Yoghurt and Chive and served with Sugar Snap Peas

  • Ground turkey cost $6.39 or $1.60 per serve
  • Bacon was $5.99 and we used β…“, or 50c per serve
  • A can of chipotle is $1.50 and we used half, or 38c per serve
  • Add 65c for onion, breadcrumbs and seasonings
  • The gravy was $1.78 or 89c per serve
  • Sugar Snap Peas add 44c per serve
  • Add 45c for Yoghurt and Chives..

A favorite Meatloaf makes a very decent meal for $4.91 per serve.

Nov 26: Smoked Salmon Pizza with Pickled Beets and Lemon

Today we finished the Smoked Trout Chowder for $3.98 per serve.

Dinner

Even though the weather was cool and a little windy it did not deter us from grilling our Smoked Salmon Pizza outside.

  • Sockeye Smoked Salmon pieces were $5.49 or $2.75 per serve
  • The Pizza Dough was $1.49, or 75c per serve
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 60c per serve
  • About two ounces of Neufchatel went on each Pizza, or 25c per serve
  • Preserved Lemon adds 5c per serve
  • Pickled Beets adds 15c per serve.

As always a very tasty meal for $4.55 per serve.

Nov 24: Tuna Tataki Rice Bowl

Lunch

As we were in Simi Valley we picked up Scallops, Coleslaw and Fries from Mr Fish and Chips for $7.27 per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

We planned on our Bento Box plus Ahi Tuna Tataki, but had to change plans when the restaurant wasn’t answering their phone, so we changed plans and created a Tuna Tataki Rice Bowl.

  • The Tuna was $7.19 and we used about β…”, or $2.40 per serve
  • Brown Rice adds 34c per serve
  • The Avocado was 79c or 40c per serve
  • Add 20c for ΒΌ Cucumber each
  • Add 40c for Soy, Fried Onions and Ponzu.

While it wasn’t what we were expecting, it was an excellent meal for $3.74 per serve. Unfortunately the Trader Joe’s Ahi Tuna was not as appealing looking as the Aldi, but had great flavor.

Nov 23: Beef Massaman Curry

Lunch

For lunch we toasted some Italian Bread, spread it with Garlic Spread, covered with Giant Baked Beans and topped with a slice of Gouda.

  • Italian Bread is 28c per serve
  • The Giant Baked Beans are $1.99 or $1.00 per serve
  • Gouda slices are 12 for $3.99 or 68c per serve
  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

A decent lunch that is good enough to return to regularly, for $2.36 per serve.

For dinner we finished the Beef Massaman Curry for $7.10 per serve.

Nov 22: Vegetable Biriyani

Lunch

We had a simple toasted Ham, Cheese and Tomato sandwich.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • Semi-dried Tomatoes add 55c per serve
  • Ham adds 72c per serve
  • Garlic Spread adds 30c per serve.

A good sandwich for $2.31 per serve.

Dinner

We planned on having frozen Vegetable Biriyani for $3.59 per serve, but it was not to Foodie Philip’s liking, so he had a repeat of the Smoked Trout Chowder for $3.61 per serve, for an average of $3.60 per serve.

Nov 21: Spanish Mussels with Chris and Tomato-Wine Sauce with Garlic Bread

Lunch

The Foodies had an odd lunch with only one Crispbread speed with Branston Pickle and Cheddar as we’d had two small Pancakes each for breakfast.

  • The Rye Crispbread was $3.29 for a pack of 20, or 17c per serve
  • The Cheddar was $3.49 and we used about 60%, or 53 per serve
  • Branston Pickle was $13.31 for the jar, and we used about 1/5th, or 67c per serve.

Not counting the Pancakes, lunch was $1.37 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight we made a welcome return to Spanish Mussels with Chorizo and Tomato-Wine Sauce, again without the Heavy Cream. We served with toasted Italian Bread liberally spread with Spicy Garlic Spread for an amped up Garlic Toast.

  • The pre-cooked Mussels were $2.29 or $1.15 per serve
  • Sherry adds 58c per serve
  • The Chorizo was $5.11 after all discounts and we used half, or $1.28 per serve
  • Add 85c for other ingredients
  • The Italian Bread is 29c per serve
  • The Garlic Spread adds 40c per serve.

A very tasty meal for $4.56 per serve.

Nov 20: Chipotle Turkey Bacon Meatloaf with Cauliflower Mash, Turkey Gravy and Sugar Snap Peas

Although it’s only been a week, it was time for another Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from Skewers Halaal f0r It has been far too long between Nashville Hot Chicken sandwiches from Skewers, for $8.75 per serve.

Dinner

Chipotle Turkey Bacon Meatloaf is a favorite and tonight we served with Cauliflower Mash Potato, Turkey Gravy and Sugar Snap Peas.

The Meatloaf was great, as usual, but we found the Cauliflower Mash to be way to focused on the Cauliflower flavor that was mostly left behind by the Fooides. Otherwise a good meal for $5.27 per serve.
