  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

Two decent sandwiches for $2.73 per serve.

  • The Rao’s Alfredo Sauce was on special for $5.39 or $2.70 per serve
  • The Cauliflower Gnocchi was $2.79 or $1.40 per serve
  • Add 45c for Sun-dried Tomato.

The Alfredo Sauce was way better than the last one we had from Aldi. Overall, a very tasty and satisfying meal for $4.55 per serve.

May 9: Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich; Meaty Neapolitan Ragu with Feta Ravioli

Lunch

The Foodies needed to go our to shop, so we picked up the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich, with Fries, from Skewers for $8.75 per serve.

Dinner

This Meaty Neapolitan Ragu with Feta Ravioli is very onion heavy and a new recipe for the Foodies. The recipe made eight serves.

  • The grass fed Chuck Roast was $19.10 or $2.38 per serve
  • Onions were $4.98 or 63c per serve
  • Add 60c for wine, or 8c per serve
  • Add 30c for other ingredients
  • The Ravioli was $2.99 or $1.50 per serve.

We felt the Ragu was a little too sweet from the onion and offset it a little with some Worcestershire sauce. It still ate a little sweet, so we will experiment with future meals. Still, quite tasty for $4.79 per serve.

May 8: Ham, Smokey Cheddar & Semi-dried Tomato Bagel; Sous Vide Ham with Apple Sauerkraut and Spaetzle

Lunch

A Bagel seemed like a good choice for lunch, particularly with Ham, Smokey Cheddar & semi-dried Tomatoes. Ham, Cheese & Tomato? Not original but kicked up a little.

  • The Brioche Bagel is 58c
  • Smokey Cheddar is 34c per serve
  • Black Forest Ham is $3.29 per pack, or 66c per serve
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 60c per serve
  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

Unsurprisingly, this made a great Bagel for $2.58 per serve.

Dinner

We set a gap between our Hams of at least four weeks, and so it was time to sous vide another Ham and serve it with the remaining Apple Sauerkraut, and some frozen Spaetzle.

  • The The Ham is only 42c per serve because it was purchase as a loss leader at 49c per pound
  • The frozen Spaetzle was $2.99 or $1.50 per serve
  • The Apple was $1.23 or 28c per serve
  • The Artisanal Kraut was $3.29 or 42c per serve
  • Add 30c for Dressing ingredients
  • Add 20c for Whole Grain Mustard.

The Ham is ridiculously cheap, but it’s hard to walk past. The Apple Sauerkraut was goody, as always, but the Spaetzle was doughy and didn’t have much flavor. Otherwise a good meal for $3.12 per serve.

May 7: Ploughman’s Lunch; Smoked Salmon Pizza

We repeated the Crisp Bread Ploughman’s Lunch with Apple & Pickled Onion.

A pretty decent meal for $3.01 per serve.

Our favorite Pizza for $5.45 per serve.

Lunch

We finished the Asparagus and Feta Frittata for $2.84 per serve.

The Slaw is definitely the star of this $3.60 per serve meal.

May 4: Egg Salad & Watercress, BLT; Caramelized Ginger Pork with Vietnamese Salad

Lunch

We shared a couple of sandwiches, starting with a return to Trader Joe’s Egg Salad on one – along with Watercress – while for the other we cooked some Bacon to make a Bacon, Sprouts and Tomato, so technically a BST.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • Egg Salad is $3.69 and we use about ¼, or 46c per serve
  • Watercress was $2.99 and we used ¼, or 38c per serve
  • Bacon is $6.99 and we used about ⅓, or 58c per serve
  • Sprouts add 30c per serve
  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

Both sandwiches were decent for $2.86 per serve.

Dinner

We had the Caramelized Ginger Pork left, so we heated it and served atop a Vietnamese Salad.

  • The ground pork was $6.99 and we’ll get four serves from that, or $1.75 per serve
  • Add 40c for ginger, shallot, garlic and chili, etc
  • The Coleslaw Mix is 50c per serve,
  • Dressing ingredients add 40c per serve
  • The other Greens add 30c per serve
  • Bell Pepper adds 8c per serve.

A pretty tasty meal for $3.44 per serve.

May 3: Italian Bread with Apple & Delice de Bourgogne; Asparagus Frittata

Lunch

We cut four slices from a par-baked Italian Loaf & toasted them, then topped with Delice de Bourgogne and Apple.

  • The Italian Bread loaf is $2.19 and we used about ⅓, or 37c per serve
  • The Delice de Bourgogne was $5.38 and we shared ½, or $1.35 per serve
  • Apple adds 20c per serve.

An excellent open faced sandwich for $1.92 per serve.

Dinner

An Asparagus and Feta Frittata makes a simple Meatless Monday. Despite the photo, we will get four serves.

  • A mix of medium and large Pastured Eggs equates to 54c per serve
  • The (tasteless) Israeli Feta is 67c per serve
  • Asparagus was $3.99 and we used the remaining ⅔, or $1.33 per serve
  • Add 30c for Onion and seasoning.

A surprisingly filling meal, packed with flavor, for $2.84 per serve.

May 2: Lamb Gyro; Shredded Lamb Salad with Preserved Meyer Lemon, Dolmas, Hummus and Salad

Lunch

A trip to Home Depot had us near New York Chicken and Gyro, so naturally we picked up a Lamb Gyros for $8.17 with tax and tip.

Dinner

It was time for Nigella Lawson’s Shredded Lamb Salad, except we are swapping out the Pomegranate for Preserved Mayer Lemon and the preserving liquid.

  • The Lamb Shank was $8.15 or $4.08 per serve
  • Stuffed Eggplant Dolmas were $1.79 or 60c per serve
  • Caramelized Onion Hummus is 65c per serve, but way better than regular Hummus
  • Add 60c for the Salad and Dressing.

The preserving liquid (Salt and Lemon Juice) bought the perfect amount of Salt to the Lamb, but with a subtle lemon tang, which was enhanced with the pieces of Preserved Lemon. A excellent meal for $5.73 per serve.

May 1: Chapli Kebab Brioche Bagel Burger; Soutzoukakia with Dolmas and Salad

Lunch

We had most of Foodie Greg’s Chapli Kebab serve, along with a serve of Rice, left from Thursday night, so we made one patty into a Burger, while Foodie Greg had the Rice and other patty.

  • The Bagel is 58c per serve
  • The Chapli Kebab and Rice are already accounted
  • Semi-dried Tomato adds 35c
  • Neufchatel adds 20c per serve.

A really tasty Burger for $1.13 per serve.
