At lunch we did two Ham, Smokey Cheddar & Apple Toasted Sandwiches.

The Foodies were invited to eat with a friend who prepared a very delicious Lamb Shank with a homemade Marinara stye sauce, served on Polenta with a side salad.

Dec 26: Grazing Redux; Barramundi and Caesar Salad

Lunch

For lunch we continued to nosh on the remaining cheeses etc for about $8.00 per serve.

Dinner

Frozen Barramundi from Whole Foods with a bagged Caesar Salad Kit from Ald, is a simple, but very tasty Fishy Friday on Saturday.

  • The Barramundi was on special for $7.99 or $4.00 per serve
  • The Caesar Salad kit was $1.99 or $1.00 per serve.

A very good, but simple, meal for $5.00 per serve.

Dec 25: Red Wine & Mushroom Meatloaf, Christmas Gnocchi & Roast Garlic Alfredo Sauce; “Grazing” Dinner

Lunch

For Christmas lunch we heated the remaining Red Wine & Mushroom Meatloaf and served with some festive star and Christmas Tree shaped Gnocchi in a prepared Roast Garlic Alfred Sauce.

  • The Meatloaf is $4.63 per serve
  • The Christmas Gnocchi was $3.99 or $2.00 per serve
  • The Alfredo Sauce was $2.99 or $1.50 per serve.

The Alfredo Sauce from Aldi was disappointing, but the Gnocchi was great. A good Christmas lunch for $8.13 per serve.

Dinner

We chose a “grazing” meal of Leicestershire Red, Duck Mousse Pate, a rich creamy Brie-like cheese, Olives, Almonds, Blackberries and a Pate de Champagne. Along with Port and Stilton for “desert” this meal cost about $15.00 per serve.

Dec 24: Pablano Corn Chowder; Sous Vide Ham with Choucroute

Lunch

For lunch we had prepared Pablano Corn Chowder, which was very tasty for $1.99 per serve.

Dinner

For most of the afternoon we sous vide a small Ham ahead of dinner with Coucroute.

  • The Ham was 99c per pound and we had approximately 12 ounce each, or 74c per serve
  • Baby carrots add 45c per serve
  • The Sauerkraut was $1.99 or $1.00 per serve
  • A Fingerling Potato adds 35c per serve
  • Add 50c for Rose
  • Add 40c for other ingredients.

The Ham was excellent and the Choucroute a great accompaniment for $2.70 per serve.

Dec 23: Smokey Cheddar & Apple; Tuna Melt; Jambalaya

Our sandwiches today are a simple Smokey Cheddar & Apple and a Tuna Melt,

  • A Tuna packet is 99c or 50c per serve
  • Smokey Cheddar is 34c per serve
  • The Apple was 79c or 20c per serve
  • Add 50c for Garlic Spread, Mustard, Shallot and Capers.

Decent sandwiches for $2.28 per serve.

We returned to the Jambalaya for $3.47 per serve.

Dec 22: Ham, Cheese & Semi-dry Tomato; Turmeric Coconut Curry with Pork

A simple Ham, Cheese & Semi-dry Tomato sandwich.

  • Semi-dried Tomatoes add 64c per serve
  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread.

A decent sandwich for $2.46 per serve.

Dinner

It’s been a couple of months since we had Turmeric Coconut Curry with Pork and Brown rice so we decided to have it tonight!

  • The Ground Pork was on special at Wholefoods for a net of $5.50 or $1.37 per serve
  • Add 45c for onion, ginger and turmeric
  • Coconut milk was $1.89 or 48c per serve
  • The Nappa Cabbage was $3.57, but we used about ⅛ or 22c per serve
  • Almond flakes were $2.49 but we used only 1/5 or 25c per serve
  • Baby Bell Peppers add 32c per serve
  • Mint came from our garden
  • Add 33c per serve for brown rice.

The Ground Pork was at least as good as from our delivery, which we have suspended for the moment. This turned out well for $3.42 per serve.

Dec 21: Smoked Trout, Avocado & Neufchatel; Noodle Stir-fry with Bok Choy, Mushrooms and Peppers

Two shared sandwiches today: Smoked Trout, Avocado, Neufchatel & Shallot.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • An Avocado is 49c or 25c per serve
  • We shared a $3.49 can of Smoked Trout, or $1.75 per serve
  • Add 40c for Garlic Spread
  • Add 20c for Capers and Shallot.

A very tasty sandwich for $3.34 per serve.

Tonight’s Meatless Monday recipe is a Noodle Stir-fry with Bok Choy, Mushrooms and Peppers. We used Brown Rice Pad Thai Noodles.

  • The Brown Rice Pad Thai Noodles are 68c per serve
  • Peppers add 64c per serve
  • The Bok Choy was $2.00 and we used about half or 50c per serve
  • Mushrooms were $2.69 or $1.35 each
  • Add 33c for Brown Rice
  • Add 40c for Toasted Almond Flakes
  • Add 20c for Greek Yoghurt
  • Add 45c for other ingredients.

A tasty, and filling, meatless meal for $4.55 per serve.

Dec 20: Egg in a Brioche Bagel; Red Wine and Mushroom Meatloaf with a Celery and Olive Salad with Caramelized Onion

Lunch

Now we can cook two full Bagels – four eggs – at once, the Foodies can enjoy their meal together.

  • The Brioche Bagels are $2.89 for five and we shared one, or 58c per serve
  • Pastured Eggs are 49c each or 98c per serve
  • Add 30c for Salsa.

Very tasty for $1.86 per serve.

Dinner

We decided to fry off slices of Meatloaf to reheat in on that same Multipurpose Griddle as for lunch. Tonight we served with a Salad of some especially sweet Celery, Green Olives and Mixed Greens with a sprinkling of Parmesan.

  • The Meatloaf is $4.63 per serve
  • Mixed Greens are 45c per serve
  • The olives come in a $4.49 jar, and we used half, or $1.25 per serve
  • A sprinkling of Grated Parmesan adds 30c.

The pan seared Meatloaf is always better! The Salad was a good balance for $6.63 per serve.

Dec 19: Bahn Mi; Red Wine and Mushroom Meatloaf with Roast Fingerling Potatoes and Sugar Snap Peas

Lunch

The Bahn Mi from Pho Saigon 1, for $10.00 with tax and tip, seems to be getting bigger with every visit.

Dinner

We sliced and fried a serve of Meatloaf, and served with with a Fingerling Potatoes and Sugar Snap Peas.

  • The Meatloaf is $4.63 per serve as we’ll get six serves
  • Sugar Snap Peas add 44c per serve
  • Fingerling Potatoes were 68c per serve.

As always, the Meatloaf is great. The Fingerling Potatoes didn’t crispen up as we’d hope, but were buttery soft inside. Overall a good meal for $5.75 per serve.

Dec 18: Tuna Melt; Miso Fish Soup with Soba

Lunch

We each had a full Tuna Melt, which meant we got to select our flavor. Foodie Philip went with Sweet & Spicy, while Foodie Greg chose Smokey.

Our Meatless Monday dish tonight is Miso Fish Soup with Soba.

  • The Mushrooms were $3.99 or $2.00 per serve
  • Edamame was $2.29 and we used half or $1.15 per serve
  • Broth was $1.99 or $1.00 per serve
  • An egg is 51c per serve
  • Soba Noodles are $3.29 and we used about ⅓ or 55c per serve
  • Add 30c per serve for other ingredients.

There was a lot more flavor than you’d expect from such a simple preparation, but it turned out to be quite tasty for $6.81 per serve.
