Aug 4: Saucy Scallops with Mushrooms and Black Rice

Lunch

We revisited out new regular order at Pho Saigon 1: a shared serve of Egg Rolls and a shared Bahn Mi for $12.92 per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

The preprepared Saucy Scallops with Mushroom packet is a little light on Mushrooms, so we enhanced it with some frozen pre-cooked mushrooms and served with Black Rice.

  • Black Rice is 34c per serve
  • The Scallops were $6.99 or $3.50 per serve
  • The Mushrooms add 89c per serve.

The Mushrooms and Scallops are better when they are in balance! A decent meal for $4.73 per serve.

  • Add 20c for Capers
  • Add 20c for Shallots
  • The Demi-baguette was $1.29 or 65c per serve.

We heated the Speck in the Ciabatta, which softened it and released more flavor. A good sandwich for $3.23 per serve.

Dinner

A simple meal of sous vidé Shrimp on a Lemon and Pea Alfred Rigatoni. We seasoned the Shrimp with a Lemon Seasoning we bought back from a roadside stall on the Amalfi Coast in Italy.

  • The Rigatoni was $1.89 and we used half, or 48c per serve

Dinner

While not officially “Lamb Week” we followed last night’s Lamb Shoulder Chops with Soutzoukakia – Greek Ground Lamb Meatballs. Tonight we served with a Greek Chickpea and Cucumber Salad.

Jul 30: Braised Lamb Shoulder Chops with Dill and Juniper Berries served with Cous Cous

Lunch

It wasn’t really time for another Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich from Skewers, but we indulged in our favorite sandwich anyway, for $11.85 per serve with a shared Fries.

Dinner

We used to cooke this recipe with Lamb Shanks, but they were not available so we used Lamb Shoulder Chops instead, which worked perfectly. The Foodies had a guest that night, so we got three serves from everything.

  • Arugula adds 40c per serve

A very tasty sandwich for $3.18 per serve. There was enough residual heat from finishing the Ciabatta to soften the Speck.

Dinner

Our traditional Steak Night went Italian again with Tagliata – Italian Sliced Steak.

  • The Top Sirloin (a.k.a. Rump) Steak was $8.01 or $4.01 per 8oz serve
  • Baby Arugula is $2.49 and we used about half, or 62c per serve
  • Add 80c for Shaved Parmesan
  • Add 50c for Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil.

The Steak was quite tender and full of flavor, to the point some would find it a little too “gamy,” but we appreciated the added flavor. A pretty good meal and the equal of any Tagliata we had in Italy, for $5.93 per serve.
