We finally finished the Cuban PIcadillo tonight, served with Cuban Style Black Beans.

  • Black Beans are 99c or 50c per serve
  • The Cuban Picadillo is $2.89 per serve.

Even at the third serve the Picadillo is a great stew for $3.39 per serve.

Lunch

While Foodie Greg was shopping, Foodie Philip picked up Heuvos Rancheros from our local shop for $10.00 per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

We thought we were going to finish the Cuban Picadillo tonight, but it turns out there are another two serves available.

  • The Cuban Picadillo is $2.89 per serve
  • Brown Rice is 33c per serve.

An excellent stew for $3.22 per serve.

Mar 7: Steak & Stout Pie; Pork with Caramelized Mushrooms and Peas

Lunch

The coldest day of the week calls for a nice meat pie. Today we both had Steak and Stout pies.

Trader Joe’s pies are $6.49 for two or $3.25 per serve.

Dinner

Always looking for ways to use Ground Pork or Ground Beef, we settled on a new recipe: Pork with Caramelized Mushrooms and Peas. We got three serves from the recipe.

  • The pork came from our meat delivery – 1 lb of ground pork cost $8.31 or $$2.77 per serve
  • The Mushrooms were $7.99, but shared about half, or $1.33 per serve
  • Snow Peas add 82c per serve
  • Add 40c for other ingredients
  • Add 33c for brown rice.

This was a pretty tasty stir fry for $5.77 per serve.

Mar 6: Apple & Smoked Cheddar; Shrimp in Butter Marsala Sauce with Garlic Naan

  • The Old Crock Smokey Cheddar was $5.95 or 75c per serve
  • The Fuji Apple was 36c and each had ¼, or 9c per serve

A very nice balance of smokey, sweet and tart for $1.81 per serve.

Dinner

Foodie Greg picked up some Indian Simmer Sauces, so tonight we added onion and Fresh Peas to the Butter Marsala simmer sauce, and when it was hot, used it to poach some Shrimp.

  • 1 lb of shrimp is $10.99,  or $2.75 per serve
  • The Garlic Naan was $3.49 or $1.75 per serve
  • The Butter Marsala simmer sauce was $4.99 but after special offers and Prime discount it cost $3.60 or $1.80 per serve

The Butter Marsala sauce was very tasty, and went well with the Peas and Shrimp to make a very tasty and satisfying meal for $6.70 per serve.

Mar 5: Popeye’s Fried Chicken with Mediterranean Crunch Salad

Lunch

Today we finished the rest of the Popeye’s Chicken and served with a Mediterranean Crunch Salad kit.

  • A nine piece special was $3.40 per serve with tax
  • The Salad kit was $1.99 or 50c per serve.

The chicken reheated well, but that was one very boring salad. The chicken made it worthwhile for $3.90 per serve.

Dinner

Thursday night is traditionally our “Steak Night” although the idea has broadened to be a “protein focused” night. We seared two Top Sirloin Steaks from out meat box and served with Crash Hot Potatoes, and the remainder of the Salad kit.

  • The top sirloin from the Keller Crafted delivery was $12.36 or $6.18 per serve
  • The remainder of the Salad was 75c after we added some Pomegranate Seeds
  • The Potato Medley was $3.49 and we used half, or 88c per serve
  • Add 50c for Béarnaise Sauce.

The Steak, Béarnaise Sauce and Crash Hot Potatoes were great, but the Salad remained boring. Still, not a bad meal for $8.31 per serve.

Mar 4: Gyro; Gyro

Lunch

The Foodies are having some work done on the house and had to go to Home Depot and pick out some molding for the new windows. Naturally we went to New York Chicken and Gyro. We also needed to expose the young guy working on the house to a “Greek Taco!” There were also several Falafel Gyro, which we ultimately ate for dinner, so the average was $7.5o per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

Foodie Greg had a Falafel Gyro for lunch, but opted for just the Falafel with Hummus for dinner. Foodie Philip had another Lamb Gyro, for an average of $7.50 per serve.

It was definitely better without the potato, and having a balancing “side” worked better. Quite enjoyable, and a little different, for $3.67 per serve.

Mar 2: Popeye’s; Egg Drop Soup

Lunch

It was convenient for Foodie Philip to bring home Popeyes Fried Chicken, and we enjoyed it with Red Beans and Rice for $4.80 per serve with tax.
