Nov 26: Steak & Stout Pie; Spanish Style Meatloaf with Cuban Style Black Beans and Corn

Lunch

Being a cold day we heated two Trader Joe’s Steak & Stout Pies for $6.99 or $3.50 per serve.

Dinner

For dinner we revisited the Spanish Style Meatloaf by slicing off some generous serves, and frying them in butter. We paired with with Cuban Style Black Beans to which we added some Frozen Corn.

  • The Meatloaf is $4.07 per serve
  • A can of Cuban Style Black Beans is 99c or 50c per serve
  • Corn adds 25c per serve.

We still have some left over Meatloaf (although the whole has been counted in two meals), but we definitely enjoyed this revisit, for $4.82 per serve.

Nov 25: Cheddar & Kumato, Hummus & Sprouts; Eggs in Purgatory

Lunch

Today we returned to the very successful Hummus & Sprouts paired with a Cheddar and Kumato sandwich.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 66c per serve
  • The Sprouts are $2.99 and we use ¼ per sandwich, or 38c per serve
  • The Hummus was $3.99 and we used ¼ or 50c per serve
  • The Old Croc is $4.99 and we used half, or $1.25 per serve
  • Five Kumato were $3.49 and we shared one, or 35c per serve.

Both sandwiches were tasty for $3.14 per serve.

Dinner

A long time ago we used to make Eggs in Purgatory regularly, but ultimately couldn’t find a really good Tomato Sauce. After discovering the Rao’s Marinara we decided to try their Arrabbiata Sauce, which has a bit of spicy heat to it.

As it turns out, we preferred the Marinara Sauce, which seemed to have more depth of flavor, whereas the Arrabbiata Sauce relied on the heat without the complex tomato flavors of the Marinara.

  • At $8.99 or $4.50 per serve, the sauce is not cheap, but it is good
  • Pastured Eggs are 51c and we averaged one and a half, or 77c per serve.

An enjoyable meal, and one we’ll definitely repeat with the Marinara Sauce, for $5.27 per serve.

Nov 24: Bacon, Scrambled Eggs & Blistered Tomatoes on Toast; Spanish Style Meatloaf with Black Beans

A good Sunday lunch for $2.52 per serve.

Dinner

We returned to the Spanish-Style Meatloaf with a mix of ground pork and ground Turkey. Although we skipped the cheese, we will get four serves from this meatloaf.

  • The pork came from our Keller Crafted meat delivery – 1 lb of ground pork cost $8.31 or $2.08 per serve
  • The Ground Turkey was $2.99 or 50c per serve
  • The potato was 75c or 19c per serve
  • The orange bell pepper was $1.99 or 50c per serve

  • An pastured egg is 51c or 13c per serve
  • Add 30c per serve for paprika, onion, garlic, thyme and seasoning
  • The Black Beans are 50c per serve.

The combination of smoked paprika and pork made this very reminiscent of dry chorizo, except with a much lighter texture and it paired well with the Black Beans for $4.57 per serve.

Nov 23: Tuna & Avocado, Hummus & Sprouts; Sausage and Bean Casserole

Today’s sandwiches returned to the Hummus and Sprouts we enjoyed last week, and paired it with a Smoked Tuna & Avocado. Unfortunately the Avocado was over-ripe so we didn’t harvest a lot of flesh.

  • The Hummus was $3.99 and we used ¼ or 50c per serve

  • Celery was 99c but we used half, or 8c per serve
  • Russet Potatoes were $1.83 or 31c per serve
  • Bacon was $7.99 for 12 rashers and we used two, or 22c per serve
  • Half and Half is $1.49 or 25c per serve
