Jun 18: Ham & Coleslaw; Tahitian Poisson Cru

Lunch

For lunch we had some simple Deli Ham and Coleslaw sandwiches.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • Deli Ham is 66c per serve
  • The Coleslaw adds 70c per serve.

A decent sandwich for $2.10 per serve.

Dinner

A new Fishy Friday – and Tuna – option: Tahitian Poisson Cru, or marinated raw Tuna.

  • 12 oz Ahi Tuna was $5.19, or $2.60 per serve
  • Cucumber adds 40c per serve
  • Bell Peppers add 32c per serve
  • The container of Grape Tomatoes was $3.49 and we used about 1/5, or 35c per serve
  • Add 60c for Limes and other ingredients.

The Poisson Cru was very successful, with the Coconut Milk bringing a creaminess that works well with the vegetable and Tuna. A very good meal that we will repeat, for $4.27 per serve.

Jun 17: Fried Scallops, Fries & Coleslaw; Avocado, Mango and Shrimp Salad

Lunch

During our weekly shopping trip to Aldi, the Foodies picked up Fried Scallops, Fries & Coleslaw from Mr Fish & Chips for $5.19 per serve with tax and tip.

Dinner

A return to a Summer favorite: Avocado, Mango and sous vide Shrimp.

  • 1 lb of shrimp is $10.99,  or and we used half $2.75 per serve.
  • Mango was 40c per serve
  • Avocado was 25c per serve
  • Add 35c for Lettuce
  • Add 20c for dressing ingredients.

A very tasty meal for $3.95 per serve.

Jun 16: Chorizo, Smokey Cheddar & Bell Pepper; Hot and Sour Beef Salad

Lunch

Foodie Greg had picked up some Chorizo so we had Chorizo, Smokey Cheddar and Bell Pepper sandwiches again.

  • Dave’s Killer Bread is 74c per serve
  • Smokey Cheddar is 34c per serve
  • The Chorizo was $4.72 and we half, or $1.18 per serve
  • Add 50c for Garlic Spread
  • Fire Roasted Peppers cost $1.99 and we used half, or 50c per serve.

A very tasty sandwich for $3.26 per serve.

Dinner

We swapped our ‘Steak night’ to tonight due to the predicted weather.

  • The NY Strip was $16.07 for two steaks, or $4.02 per serve
  • Limes were 49c for two but we shared one, or 13c per serve
  • Mint was from our garden
  • Lettuce adds 60c per serve
  • Spring Onions we grow
  • The Bell Pepper was 64c or 32c per serve
  • Instead of a Chili we used some Sweet Chili Sauce, which adds 20c per serve
  • Add 30c for Fish Sauce and other ingredients.

It’s a favorite because it’s very tasty, for $5.57 per serve.

Jun 15: Smoked Salmon, Neufchatel, Capers & Shallot on a Brioche Bagel; BBQ Chicken Leg on Caesar Salad

Lunch

There was still Smoked Salmon so we made Bagels with Neufchatel, Capers & Shallots on a Brioche Bagel.

  • The Brioche Bagel is 58c
  • The Smoked Salmon pieces were $1.38 per serve
  • Add 20c for Neufchatel
  • Add 40c for Shallot and Capers.

A great lunch for $2.56 per serve, which is way less than a Deli bagel and we have a better view!

Dinner

We went simple, and unheated, on a hot evening.

  • The Rotisserie Chicken was $4.97 for a good sized bird, or $1.24 per serve
  • The Caesar Salad Kit is $1.00 per serve
  • A Pastured Egg adds 38c per serve.

A tasty meal for $2.62 per serve.

Jun 14: Soutzoukakia on Brioche Baguette; Vegetable Stir Fry with Ramen Noodles

Lunch

We toasted the other two Brioche Baguettes and topped with the reheated Soutzoukakia and some Lettuce.

  • We shared a $3.33 serve of the Soutzoukakia, or $1.67 per serve
  • The Baguettes were $3.49 for four, or 88c per serve
  • Add 10c for the Lettuce.

Other than the bread, this was pretty good for $2.65 per serve.

Dinner

Being Meatless Monday we had a Mushroom focused stir-fry on Ramen Noodles.

  • A pack of four Shin Noodle Bowl was $3.69 or 93c per serve
  • Bok Choy adds 40c per serve
  • Baby Bell Peppers add 32c per serve
  • A 12oz bag is $3.79 and we used half, or $1.90 per serve
  • Add 50c for other ingredients.

The frozen Mushrooms were very successful, contributing to a good dish for $4.05 per serve.

Jun 13: Avocado, Bacon, Chicken & Semi-dried Tomato on Brioche Baguette; Sous vide Rack of Lamb with Raspberry, Feta and Mint Salad; Dolmas and Hummus

Lunch

Out of curiosity Foodie Greg had picked up some Brioche Baguettes from Aldi, which we toasted and topped with Avocado, Bacon, Chicken Breast, Semi-dried Tomatoes and Onion Sprouts.

  • The Avocado was 68c or 34c per serve
  • The Baguettes were $3.49 for four, or 88c per serve
  • The Bacon was $3.49 or 14 slices (from Amazon Fresh), and we used three, or 73c per serve
  • Add 45c for Semi-dried Tomatoes
  • Add 30c for Onion Sprouts.

The Brioche Baguette was not particularly successful, but overall a good lunch for $2.70 per serve.

Dinner

A welcome return to our sous vide Rack of Lamb with Raspberry, Feta and Mint Salad; Dolmas and Hummus.

  • For $22.13 we got 2.25 lbs of Rack of Lamb that we split into four 9oz (approx) serves for $5.53 per serve
  • Raspberries were $1.50 and we used ½ of the punnet, or 37c per serve
  • The Mixed Greens were $1.49 and we used half, or 38c each
  • Mint was from our garden
  • The Feta adds 48c per serve
  • Add 15c for Dressing ingredients
  • Dolmas from Whole Foods were $3.41 (on special) or $1.70 per serve
  • Add 30c for Hummus.

An excellent meal for $8.91 per serve.

Jun 12: Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich; Smoked Salmon Pizza

Lunch

After extensive research, we are convinced that Skewers’ Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich is our favorite for $8.75 per serve, with a shared Fries.

Dinner

A nice warm night was a perfect setting for our Smoked Salmon Pizza.

  • Sockeye Smoked Salmon pieces were $5.49 or $2.75 per serve
  • The Pizza Dough was $1.29, or 65c per serve
  • We used semi-dried Cherry Tomatoes for 60c per serve
  • About two ounces of Neufchatel went on each Pizza, or 25c per serve
  • Add 30c for Capers and Shallot
  • Add 40c for dressed Greens.

Our favorite Pizza for $4.96 per serve.

Jun 11: Tuna Salad; Seared Scallops with Pea Puree

Lunch

We met up at Gordon Biersch with a friend in town briefly, for $23.36 per serve.

Dinner

Tonight was a return to the very tasty Seared Scallops with Pea Puree.

  • The frozen “dry packed” Scallops were $9.69, or $4.85 per serve
  • Frozen peas are $1.29 per pack, or 65c per serve
  • A pint of half & half is $1.49 and half is used in the puree, or 38c per serve
  • Stock adds 50c per serve
  • Other ingredients add 40c per serve.

An excellent meal for $6.78 per serve

Jun 10: BBQ Chicken Breast, Semi-dried Tomatoes & Garlic Spread; Skirt Steak with Vegetables or Home Fries

Lunch

Foodie Greg ventured to Amazon Fresh for the first time and, among other things, picked up a bargain BBQ Chicken and a French Loaf.

  • The French Bread was 99c or 33c per serve
  • The Rotisserie Chicken was $4.97 for a good sized bird, and we shared a Breast, or 63c per serve
  • Add 45c for Semi-dried Tomato
  • Add 50c for Garlic Spread.

While not a Baguette, the French Bread was okay, while the Chicken was moist and up to standard. A good lunch for $1.97 per serve.

Dinner

After lunch at The Country Deli just before our road trip, we decided we generally prefer the take out experience, particularly with our ‘hack’ of the Marinated Skirt Steak Dinner into two meals.

We split the meat evenly. Foodie Greg got the Vegetable side, while Foodie Philip got the Home Fries and three home-added Fried Eggs. With tax, tip and Eggs it was $16.65 per serve.
